A paragraph is a group of sentences that work together to explain one main idea. Think of it like a mini-essay! Every good paragraph has a clear structure to help the reader understand what you're trying to say. The basic parts of a paragraph are the topic sentence, supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence. The topic sentence tells the reader what the paragraph is about. The supporting sentences give details and examples to explain the topic. The concluding sentence wraps up the paragraph and reminds the reader of the main idea.

Worked Example

Write a paragraph about your favorite animal.

  1. Step 1: Choose your favorite animal. Let's say it's a dog.
  2. Step 2: Write a topic sentence that introduces your favorite animal. For example: 'Dogs are my favorite animal because they are loyal and fun.'
